Ben was out at a "Project Greenlight" event on Sunset last night when we asked if he's GLAD the NY Yankees superstar finally called it quits this season.

And that's when Ben got mushy -- "I like Derek Jeter a lot. I have a lot of respect for Derek Jeter."

He added, "It's nice that we're not playing against him."

If Ben really wants to honor the guy ... he can buy Derek's game-used dirt for just under $400. Seriously .

Lorde -- Birthday Buns in New Zealand

Lorde celebrated her 18th birthday Friday in New Zealand with her boyfriend ... and their matching buns.

The young singer hit up a cafe in Auckland yesterday after officially becaming legal ... but we're guessing she probably didn't buy cigarettes and porn or go to the strip club.

Lorde's BF James Lowe -- who reportedly worked as her photographer before they started dating -- has said dating the famous singer has been a whirlwind from all the attention.

At least the dude's got a sweet ponytail.

Kurt Busch -- Under Investigation for Domestic Assault

breaking news

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kurt Busch is under investigation by police in Delaware in an alleged domestic assault case.

Details are scarce so far, but Busch's girlfriend told the AP the allegations involved an incident inside his motorhome at a race in Dover.

Busch has yet to be charged with any crime.

In a statement, the Dover Police Department said Friday, "At this time, the department is still investigating the victim’s claims and will not have any further comment on this matter in order to preserve the integrity of the case."

NASCAR says they are aware of the situation and are gathering information.

NOFX Singer Fat Mike -- Takes Down Fan ... One Punch, One Kick (VIDEO)

NOFX lead singer Fat Mike blasted a concertgoer in the face TWICE Wednesday in Australia ... but the guy isn't planning to sue -- in fact, the young fan is taking the blame.

The famous punk band was playing a gig at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney when an overzealous concertgoer wearing a bucket hat jumped on stage and put his arm around Mike's neck.

The singer had told the crowd earlier in the show he was suffering from neck pain ... so Mike reacted with a spinning forearm to the guy's face -- followed by a punt kick to the head while he was down.

The young fan -- named Alex -- tweeted Mike after the show apologizing ... saying he had been drinking and forgot the singer's neck was hurting.

Apologies aside ... that kick was a little excessive, and dare we say awesome.

Suge Knight Surrenders on Robbery Charges to Sympathetic Judge

Suge Knight was just taken into custody for allegedly robbing a photog in Beverly Hills, but the judge was extremely sympathetic, saying he clearly understands why a celeb would be driven to extremes when the paparazzi shoot their young children.

TMZ was in court Wednesday afternoon when Suge appeared with his lawyer, James Blatt, to formally surrender ... he's been in Vegas since the arrest warrant was issued last week.

Judge Keith Schwartz said he couldn't cut Suge a break because the D.A. has filed charges, but he said he understands how upsetting it is when paparazzi aggressively go after young children .

The judge also mentioned Justin Bieber being chased down an L.A. freeway, adding, "What kind of lunatics do that?"

The judge set bail at $500,000 and Suge was taken into custody and given priority for booking.

Suge Knight just arrived at a L.A. courthouse to surrender in his robbery case.

Our photog asked Suge about the case, which could put him behind bars for the rest of his life. Suge made it clear ... the rap against him isn't fair.

Suge and Katt Williams were both arrested last week after a photog claimed they took her camera by force in Beverly Hills. Suge and Katt say it's all B.S. -- she was shooting Suge's 4-year-old son and they never took the camera.

Kylie Jenner's Rear End Gets Her Sued

The first car accident Kylie Jenner ever had just scored her another milestone -- her first big fat lawsuit.

Kylie's being sued for the 3-car pileup she allegedly started back in August 2013 -- just 18 days after her 16th birthday. TMZ broke the story ... Kylie was driving a Mercedes G-Wagon when a witness says she slammed into the back of a car stopped in traffic.

According to the lawsuit, Kylie started a chain reaction ... hitting a Toyota ... which then rear-ended a Subaru. The woman who was driving the Subaru is suing her for being a negligent driver. She's also suing Kris Jenner because they believe she was the registered owner of the Mercedes.

The woman's attorney tells us she suffered injuries to her neck and back.

Relevant note: Kylie was involved in another accident -- this time in a Range Rover -- though it wasn't clear whether she caused that one.

'Love and Hip Hop' Star Yung Berg -- Arrested for GF Attack ... Obstruction of Breathing

Yung Berg -- the rapper who stars on "Love and Hip Hop L.A." -- was arrested in NYC early Wednesday AM for allegedly brutalizing his girlfriend, and the charge is "obstruction of breathing" ... TMZ has learned.

Berg -- aka Hitmaka -- and the woman were at the Gershwin Hotel when they got in an argument and he allegedly grabbed her by the neck, threw her to the floor, dragged her by her hair and hit her in the face.

Apparently the neck grab was enough for the breathing obstruction charge.

When cops came, the woman had bruises and complained she was in pain.

He's currently in custody.

'Alex From Target' -- Viral Photo Was NOT Our Idea … Says Target

"Alex from Target" has come under fire as being nothing more than an elaborate marketing campaign -- but little Al's employer tells TMZ the Internet phenomenon is 100% genuine grass roots.

The teen cashier, who's full name is Alex Labeouf, become the new "it" guy when his pic was retweeted more than 1.5 million times in the #Alexfromtarget campaign. Late Tuesday a marketing company called Breakr claimed responsibility for the movement, saying it was a social experiment to test the impact of so-called fangirls on a product.

But a rep for Target tells us it has no affiliation with Breakr. The rep added, "Let us be completely clear, we had absolutely nothing to do with the creation, listing or distribution of the photo."

Additionally, several bloggers have started poking holes in the marketing company's 'Alex' theory, and attacking it for being the real shameless promoter.

Jason Patric Huge Victory ... Declared Legal Parent

Jason Patric just won a 2-year legal battle against his baby mama -- a judge just declared he is the legal father of 4-year-old Gus ... TMZ has learned

Jason had a baby with ex-GF Danielle Schreiber, and after breaking up, going back and breaking up again, she fought hard against his bid to become the legal father, citing a quirky law.

According to the law ... if a man donates sperm to a woman to whom he is not married and a doctor facilitates the insemination ... the man has NO claim of custody or parental rights.

The trial judge ruled against Jason , he appealed and the appellate court said the trial judge was off base and sent it back for another hearing.

The second time was a charm for Jason. We've learned the trial judge just issued a sealed, 45-page opinion, concluding Jason is the legal father.

The judge ordered Jason, Danielle and their lawyers to try and hash out a custody, visitation and support agreement, but if they can't the judge will make the decisions.

This case became a rallying cry for father's rights -- enormous victory for Jason.

TMZ broke the story ... Poodle is privately vowing to go to court for temporary custody if Mama June does not sever all ties from Mark McDaniel, the guy who did time for molesting her oldest daughter.
