Dwight Howard -- Tweets #FreePalestine ... Immediately Deletes, Apologizes

Dwight Howard has stepped right into the middle of a heated political issue -- tweeting #FreePalestine ... and then immediately deleting it, apologizing and calling it a "mistake."

It all went down Saturday afternoon -- the NBA star offered no explanation as to why he posted the #FreePalestine tweet ... but it seems it was motivated by the current situation in the middle east.

Moments after the tweet went up ... it went down ... and the backpeddling began, with Dwight writing, "Previous tweet was a mistake. I have never commented on international politics and never will."

Then came the follow up ... ""I apologize if I offended anyone with my previous tweet, it was a mistake!"

Wonder how Amare Stoudemire is gonna feel about it?

Doc Rivers -- LeBron to Cleveland ... 'It's Good for the NBA'

LeBron James' decision to leave Miami for his hometown Cavs is the best thing that could've happened for the NBA ... so says L.A. Clippers honcho Doc Rivers.

TMZ Sports spoke the Clips' head coach and president of basketball operations outside Madeo who hailed LeBron's move.

"I hope it's not a great move, but I think it's terrific," Doc said.

Gotta respect Doc's honesty -- especially when we asked him if he thinks LeBron feels pressure to win immediately. Check out the clip.

Tommy Ramone Dead -- Original Ramones Drummer Dies at 62

The last surviving original member of legendary punk rock group "The Ramones" is dead.

Tommy Ramone -- the group's drummer on the first 3 albums -- died Friday at his home in Queens, New York. He'd been in a hospice following bile duct cancer treatments ... according to Variety .

Tommy stopped drumming for the band in '84 -- he was replaced by Marky Ramone -- but still worked with the Ramones throughout the years. Tommy is credited for writing most of "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" and "Blitzkrieg Bop."

Lead singer Joey Ramone died in 2001 of lymphoma, a drug overdose killed guitar player Dee Dee Ramone in 2002 ... and Johnny Ramone passed away in 2004 from prostate cancer.

The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Lebron James -- Ohio Cops On High Alert ... For 'Decision' Part II

Cops in Akron, Ohio are STEPPING UP the patrol around LeBron James' home ... amid concerns that local could go a little crazy when the NBA star announces his new "decision" ... something that could happen as early as tonight.

TMZ Sports spoke with a rep for the Bath Township Police Department ... who confirmed a "significant increase" in police presence will go down around 3PM today ... the time Bron is rumored to be making his big announcement.

Officials are hoping locals won't recreate the madness that surrounded LeBron's 2010 decision ... when he left Cleveland for Miami and the city went NUTS -- with people starting fires in the streets and burning jerseys, posters and any other 'Bron items they could find.

As for LeBron -- he hasn't officially announced when he'll make his decision ... but there are reports it will happen TODAY.
